So, we’re off on another adventure. And this time, we’ve brought along our favorite hounds.

For the next two weeks, 14 nights and 15 days, we will be traveling from our home in Eastern, NC up along the coast of VA, MD, and DE to Pennsylvania then on to West Virginia and Virginia before heading back home. We’ll be visiting quite a few battlefields and national parks throughout the first week. The second week will be spent in the Shenandoah and the Monongahela National Parks. We’ll be driving down the Skyline Drive and the portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway in VA down to where it picks up in NC.
This first day has been rainy. As in it started raining about an hour into our drive and rained the entire drive up and throughout the night. We drove across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel early this morning. We’ve both been across before, but I don’t remember it, so it felt like the first time. I spoke with my parents about it and they shared that they lived about 2 miles from the bridge when my dad was stationed here in the Navy and that they would go to the beach right by the bridge to swim. The bridge itself is truly incredible. It was quite foggy, but even so, we could just barely make out the curve of the bridge ahead of you and the dips down into the tunnels as we drove along.
The rest of the drive up through Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware was mostly just rainy. We did drive along DE-9 in Delaware, which pretty much followed the coast the entire way and had to drive through quite a bit of water covered roads through Marshy wetlands. As we finally made our way into PA, we were mesmerized by the beautiful countryside and stone houses that pretty much lined our entire drive to our campsite. Our campsite was at French Creek State Park in Elverson, PA. Of course, it was still raining, but we thankfully had planned ahead and saved half of our lunch and were able to simply take it into our cozy TCTeardrop for a quick dinner. What we had not planned for was the 40-degree weather. Thankfully, we were able to speak to a Park Ranger about having the heat turned back on in the bathrooms so that we could both get warm showers before bed.
We’re still learning to live by the thought that it’s not an adventure unless something goes wrong. Off to Valley Forge tomorrow, hopefully, the rain will stay away.
Life in the right lane,
Rachel
